Friend Friday: Feminism

This week for FBFF, we are talking about feminism.

1. Do you think there is an incapability between feminism and a love for fashion?

Violette
: Not at all! Just take for example the girls from Academichic. They are to me the best example of being feminists and fashion lovers.

2. There is more to each of us than a love for fashion, how do you incorporate every aspect of yourself into your blog?

Violette
: In fact, rose&violette is really more fashion oriented than anything else. I don't really talk about my personal life on the blog, so the aspect of myself that you see on the blog is mostly my love for fashion. I don't feel the need to incoporate every aspect of myself on the blog.

3. With the fashion industry still being a male-dominated profession, how do you think it would differ if women played a larger role?

Violette: Honestly, I don't think it would be that different. But it would be nice for example to see more different body sizes and shapes in fashion shows and magazines! Maybe more women in the fashion industry would help in that way.

4. How is your self-image and the way you carry yourself informed by your beliefs?

Violette: I think that the essence of feminism is firmly believing that both men and women are equal. My feminist beliefs lead me to think that women bodies aren't sex toys or products (neither are men's bodies). So, for example, you'll never see me with clothes that can project that.

5. Do you think clothing/makeup/hair helps communicate the truth about yourself or are those things superfluous add-ons?

Violette: I would seem rather contradictory to answer no to this question, heh? But of course it communicates the truth about myself! In fact, they are tools I like to use to express myself and how I'm feeling. They even accentuate the fact that I'm a women, a proud women.

  1. I agree with number 3 - it would be nice to see more diversity of shape on the runway. We can't all be tall and thin without curves - and what a boring world if we were!

  3. J'aimerais bien trouver plus de vêtements dans toutes les tailles et aussi des modèles qui conviennent non seulement aux tailles mais aussi à l'âge..... on dirait parfois que la mode n'est faite que pour les jeunes, grandes et minces.
